Peary Berry

IMG_20131027_210115Peary Berry  |   Serves 2

3 cups spinach
2 cups water
1 cup strawberry + blueberry
1 pear
2 tablespoons extra virgin coconut oil

IMG_20131027_210206It my first time using pear in the smoothies and it adds a very subtle taste to the blend. I carried on with last weeks theme of low sugar fruits and paired this combination since this weeks theme (last 4 days) is “make your own” smoothie. It gave a bit of frothy appearance in the top but overall I am enjoying the low sugar smoothies even better than the creamy smoothies.

Apple Berry Drink

IMG_20131027_165746Apple Berry drink  |   Serves 2

3 cups spinach, fresh
2 cups water
1 Granny Smith Apple
1/2 Avocado
1 cup Strawberry

IMG_20131027_205927Avocado has been my favorite in the smoothies. It really fills you up and adds a good texture and a bright green color as well. Low sugar smoothies are turning out to be a good change after the sweet and citrus-y ones.

Sazzy Granny

IMG_20131024_112138Sazzy Granny   |   Serves 2
3 cups spinach, fresh
2 cups coconut water, unsweetened
1 cup raspberries Strawberries
1 granny smith apple

IMG_20131024_111948Razzy granny became Sazzy granny for the lack of raspberries. This low sugary challenge is turning out to be wonderful! There is a big contrast in taste as compared to last three weeks and I am looking forward to more low sugary fruits smoothies!

California Dreaming

 IMG_20131022_083340California Dreamin’    |    Serves 2

3 cups spinach, fresh
2 cups coconut water, unsweetened
2 granny smith apples
½ avocado

The challenge this week is on more leafy greens and low sugar fruits. 60% greens to 40% low sugar fruits.

IMG_20131021_205722And you can really feel the difference in the taste. This bright green smoothie with few ingredients was really low on the sugary side! And still as yummy!

Coco-Mint Mocha

Yes, its a chocolaty smoothie today!
IMG_20131018_163557Coco-Mint Mocha  |  Serves 2

2 cups spinach, fresh
¼ cup fresh mint
2 cups coconut water, unsweetened
3 tablespoons cacao powder
2 Apples 1 Apple, 1 Orange
1 bananas

IMG_20131018_223618I swapped 2 apples with 1 apple and 1 orange for that hint of sourness which I much prefer to the sweet smoothies.

I ran out of mint otherwise it would have rendered a good taste to it.

A good chocolaty twist to the smoothie with a brownish shade of green today!

Dan’s Creamy Apple Pie

IMG_20131015_213114Dan’s Creamy Apple Pie  |  Serves 2

2 cups spinach, fresh
1 ½ cups almond milk, unsweetened
3 apples
4 medjool dates (pitted)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg

IMG_20131015_213159This one was with the least amount of ingredients so far and relatively easy to put together. But it was way too sweet for my taste! Hence I ended up adding one orange to it. It still seemed a bit sweet for me and then I squeezed in 1/2 a lemon to it. There! it hit the right spot! Still sweet but with a hint of sourness to it. And the cinnamon-y flavour was heavenly. I am starting to discover that I am loving cinnamon!

Chai Like you…

The theme this week is spice it up! You can jazz up your green smoothies by adding natural spices to your blender.
IMG_20131015_100811Chai Like You

2 cups spinach, fresh
2 cups coconut water,
½ inch piece of ginger
2 apples
1 banana
1 teaspoon cardamom
1 teaspoon cinnamon

I also added 1 Kiwi to it for that extra citrus-y zing to it.

IMG_20131015_100658The coconut flesh doesn’t get fully blended and leave some bits for that added crunch. The spicy combination was amazing. Ginger-cinnamon-cardamom was just the right combo and gave a good chai like feel to it. It felt like I was drinking a fruity. creamy chai!

Pine-Kiwi-Coco-Cado

Its the last day of week 2 of the 30-day green smoothie challenge.  SGS send 5 recipes per week and for rest of the two days we can repeat any we like or just create our own. Last recipe of this week required peaches and since I was unable to locate them, I created my own.

IMG_20131011_165732  Pine-Kiwi-Coco-Cado

  • 2 cups spinach
  • Coconut water (cream included)
  • 1 cup pineapple
  • 1 orange
  • 1 kiwi
  • 1 Avocado
  • Chia seeds

IMG_20131011_214236It was my first time using coconut water, with the cream as well. Though it didn’t blend very well, the small bits gave a good texture.

Kiwi is a good addition to the smoothies. Sweet tang was the first time I used Kiwi and it was my most favorite so far.

Nearly two weeks into the challenge – almost halfway there! And its been a wonderful experience.
